Salama Preventive Training Institute begins training programs on fire prevention and occupational safety and health

H.E. Eng. Sheikh Khalid Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, chairman, Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority has emphasized the utmost importance of conducting preventive training at the launch of the Salama Preventive Training Institute in Sharjah.

The initiative follows the directive of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to consider ‘human safety’ as topmost priority. “We are confident that Salama provides the foundation for workers to develop a culture of behavioural safety by taking preventive measures that safeguard their safety and their lives, in line with our vision to achieve a safe and risk-free society and our mission to enhance the quality of life based on the highest standards of safety and prevention, with the ultimate goal of preserving life and property in the emirate.”

The Training Institute is being run by Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) and managed by Saned, which has begun its first training programs on fire prevention and occupational safety and health in Sharjah. The announcement was made at a time when more and more companies in the emirate are taking part in Salama’s training sessions designed to enhance the capabilities of workers, guards, and other security personnel. Apart from capacity development, Salama’s training programs are also aimed at promoting the best practices in the field of security and prevention in line with the directive of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to ensure public safety in Sharjah.

“Following the move, local businesses have expressed interest in Salama’s new training programs in keeping with their ongoing efforts to adopt an integrated training approach for their workers and concerned technicians. The sessions will tackle roles and responsibilities; risks identification, including workplace transportation accidents; safe and appropriate handling of work equipment and hazardous materials; and proper emergency reporting and guidance, to name a few. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion upon finishing at least 10 per cent of the sessions. They will also be given a professional certificate in occupation safety and health and fire prevention. If the training is completed by the Authority, the training of workers from any other entity in the Emirate is no longer needed.

Mahra Alshehhi, Prevention Training Institute Acting Manager and Salama Project Manager, SPSA, said that the institute’s numerous programs have been witnessing huge turnout because Salama enjoys a high level of confidence from both the public and private sector entities in Sharjah. Salama equips workers across industries in the emirate with the latest knowledge and skills to help them efficiently and effectively handle potential risks in the workplace. It utilizes training methodology designed to enhance the ability of technicians to take preventive measures to ensure their security and safety, while improving efficiency and productivity in line with the directive of Sharjah’s leaders to make occupational health and safety a top priority.

Alshehhi added: “Using simplified methods, our training programs are focused on exceptional occupational safety practices, enhanced individual and community awareness, and accident prevention delivered in different languages by our team of qualified trainers. We will continue to develop our training programs to keep up with the rapid changes in the business environment as we consistently support all efforts enhancing the quality of life in Sharjah. The seats are limited for 2019. Those wishing to enroll in the training courses offered by the Institute are kindly requested to register for the reservation. The course price is very competitive at AED 250, which is much lower than similar services.”

Eng. Sultan Al Ketbi, CEO, Saned said: “We use an integrated mechanism in our training programs to ensure that organizations incorporate effective preventive and proactive measures into their respective processes to eliminate accidents in the workplace. We are pleased by the huge turnout in our programs delivered by our elite trainers, who share with the participants their knowledge, experiences, and skills needed to apply the best practices and guarantee the safety and protection of life and property in the workplace. We at Salama will continue to establish a culture of observing the highest level of occupational safety and accident prevention measures in the local public and private sectors. This is in line with the ongoing national efforts protecting all workers as one of the UAE Government’s national priorities and as part of the country’s moral duty.”
