Malls in Kuwait to have biometrics registry points

Biometric security has been implemented in malls across Kuwait, as part of an effort from the Ministry of the Interior to enhance nationwide security.

The Avenues Mall was the first to have a biometric station set up. Instead of a time-consuming process at an official office, the new streamlined process allows a citizen, visitor or resident of the country to enter the mall, and have their fingerprint scanned in a matter of minutes. An individual simply takes a number, walks up to the machine where their number is called, scans their fingerprint and ensures all credentials match.

Following this, they can continue to explore the mall freely, with the knowledge that they have enhanced both the mall – and the larger region’s security in the process.

The success of the initiative is reliant on mall opening hours, according to findings from the General Department of Criminal Evidence.

Other malls expected to have fingerprint register stations are those of the 360 Mall and Al Kout, with the initiative being set up over the last month.
