Dubai Police granted permission to use cameras in public areas for accidents and security

In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum issued a resolution on Wednesday related to the use of security cameras to document the activities of Dubai Police officers.

According to a Dubai Media Office press release, by using cameras in public areas it will improve the quality of Dubai Police’s services and enhance the performance of its personnel. It also seeks to strengthen the community’s confidence in the Police force, protect their rights, and enhance documentation of police interactions.

By having cameras in public areas, the Police aim to fulfil duties in traffic handling and ensuring public security.

Legislation has been put in place in which the Police have to follow to protect the public’s privacy.
