UNWTO announces Women in Tech Startup Competition

The United Nations World Tourism Organisation has announced The Women in Tech Startup Competition: Middle East, at Biban 2023.

This comes as part of UNWTO‘s multi-pillar campaign of women’s empowerment, taking place across the region.

Running until the end of July 2023, the competition is open to companies led, owned or managed by women residing in any of the following companies:

Saudi Arabia
United Arab Emirates
Egypt
Oman
Bahrain
Kuwait
Jordan
Lebanon
Syria
Iraq
Libya
Yemen

Start ups must also have a viable product or idea ready to be fully developed and funded, a full-time team, a tested pilot, business plan and finally, the capacity for scalable international growth.

Alongside these requirements, an eligible start up must also belong to one of the following sectors: social impact, tourism and travel experience, events and communities or future tech.

The goal of the competition is to drive forward these industries and deliver innovative products, highlighting the efforts of women in these sectors who are currently being overlooked due to the fast-paced nature of the marketplace.

Winners of the competition will be announced at the Tourism Tech Adventure (TTA) which is to be held on World Tourism Day – September 27th, 2023. Celebrations for World Tourism Day will be taking place in Riyadh and will highlight a number of successful services and products that have come out of the competition.

This stands as one in many efforts to promote the participation of women in the future tech industry.
