Why cyber resilience is the need of the hour in the age of COVID-19

With COVID-19 becoming the new reality, organizations around the globe must respond proactively to cyber threats that have seen a spike during the pandemic. For this reason, cyber resilience, which refers to an organization or sector’s ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from cyberattacks, has become an absolute necessity rather than a mere option in the current scenario. Cyber resilience involves analyzing shortcomings in the internal digital environment and addressing them proactively to protect the organization from potential attacks and the consequential disruption of business, thus limiting the losses faced by the company or sector.

Spotlighting this heightened need to boost resilience and adopt cybersecurity best practices during the pandemic, the 8th Middle East and North Africa Information Security Conference (MENAISC2020) will be held virtually under the title “Evolving from Cyber Resistance to Resilience, in the Age of Smart Cities, Digital Economy and IoT.” The leading conference will discuss the importance of cyber resilience in the region and why now, more than ever, companies must move hastily to adopt it. The event will cover Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt and Jordan and targets 15 pivotal sectors,

Dr. Moataz Binali, Vice President, Trend Micro Middle East & North Africa, the Diamond Sponsor of the upcoming MENAISC 2020, said: “The government of Saudi Arabia is amongst the leaders in the region thanks to its tireless efforts towards addressing cybersecurity – a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims at digital infrastructure development. The establishment of the Saudi National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) and digital initiatives such as ‘attaa’ are at the heart of the government’s strategy to protect our society from cyberattacks.”

He went on to say, “The threat landscape continues to evolve every day and with that the best practices in cybersecurity take on different shapes and strategies. Newer and more sophisticated attacks surface each day – from malware, spyware, and ransomware to phishing practices, and from network compromise, data center compromise, email compromise, to crypto mining and many more.”

Wael Jaber, Vice President of Technology & Services at CyberKnight highlighted: “In line with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is taking major leaps to close this gap, and it is an ongoing journey. The education sector is contributing to addressing this challenge by directing more students toward market needs and gaps. The government is also sending thousands of university graduates for postgraduate degrees in these specialties, abroad.”

The MENAISC2020 conference will feature 26 of the best and the brightest speakers in the cybersecurity industry and host 35 workshops by world-class experts. The conference will be held on October 5 and 6, 2020. To register, please (click here)
