Security stakeholders gather in Dubai for event security summit

A two day Major Events Safety & Security Summit (ME3S) took place this week in Dubai to address the security challenges faced by those organising and policing large-scale events in the region.

The event which was held at the Sofitel Dubai Palm Resort was organised by Reed Exhibitions, in collaboration with Major Events International (MEI). Its inauguration was attended by Brigadier Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi director of the General Department of Organizations Protective Security and Emergency (OPSE), Dubai Police, and chairman of the Event’s Security Committee (ESC).

The summit brought together 200 specially selected attendees and stakeholders in the security business, including speakers representing the Yas Marina Circuit, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, Majid Al Futtaim, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, French Football Federation, Expo 2015, and Expo 2020, among others.

Topics under discussion included crowd management, physical security, information management, regulations and compliance and cyber risk.

Brigadier Al Ghaithi said: “We work continually in collaboration with security forces, venue representatives, major event organisers and solution providers to make this possible. The summit enables us to share our expertise, engage in tailored industry-led roundtables and enhance our know-how in line with our vision to pioneer innovative and smart security services.”

Next year’s edition of ME3S is expected to run alongside the eighth International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR 2018) in Abu Dhabi which is organised by the UAE Ministry of Interior and Reed Exhibitions.
