New CMS for UAE navy and coastguard

New CMS for UAE navy and coastguard

The Tawazun Economic Council – the United Arab Emirates’ defence procurement and research arm – has announced a project to develop a new combat management system (CMS) which will be used by the country’s navy and coastguard.

The National Combat Management System (NCMS) is being developed by UAE’s Marakeb Technologies and a second as-yet unselected foreign company. It is hoped the four-year project will reduce costs, support interoperability and encompass future requirements.

According to Matar Ali Romaithi, Tawazun’s Chief Economic Development Officer, it will play a key role in providing advanced systems and equipment to respond to the operational requirements of the UAE Armed Forces.

He said: “The system will allow the Navy to have a sovereign capability to make modifications and upgrades over time. Concurrent with the rapid growth of UAE’s defence and security industry, the NCMS hardware and software development environment will be key to long-term strategic success for sovereign capability development.”
