Five-year security deal for Jordan and Qatar

A five-year security deal between Jordan and Qatar has been granted royal approval by Amman – two years after diplomatic ties were fully restored.

In 2019 Amman and Doha agreed to restore diplomatic relations after a rift dating back to summer 2017. The new security deal will see the pair ‘work to strengthen and develop the existing cooperation between them and exchange security and technical information and expertise to prevent and fight crime in all its forms.’

The cooperation will see the two countries work together on tackling terrorism, organised crime, arms and people trafficking, money laundering as well as border control and anti-piracy. It will also see Jordan and Qatar share intelligence to help prevent criminal activities.

After the five-year deal expires either country can decide to end the arrangement, otherwise it will reset.
